Green Ambassadors - 5th Grade Instructional Seminar
Fifth Grade Green Ambassadors are such an important part of our Maryland Green School. In order to keep the Green momentum going, the Green Ambassadors work to come up with initiatives and actions our school can take, and then they work to get the word out.
Elmer's Glue Crew - One important program manned by the Green Ambassadors is the Elmer's Glue Crew. We keep so many empty glue sticks out of the landfill by having a system in place kept up by the Green Ambassadors. Here, we are using the computers to communicate with the teachers using Google Docs so that we can plan a time to introduce ourselves to the grades that we represent.
Sticky Powerpoints! - We decided to do digital presentations to introduce ourselves and let the students know about the Elemer's glue recycling program.
Collecting & Counting - As the sticks are collected, they are counted. We look through each stick to ensure it is empty and ready to be sent to Terracycle.
Endangered Species Art Contest - This year, the Green Ambassadors decided to promote Endangered Species awareness. Evan, who is already doing graphic art for local businesses and organizations, took on the task of creating a flyer to send out in Friday folders. Then he and the other Green Ambassadors wrote morning announcements they used to put the word out.
Here are the beautiful art entries submitted from multiple grades here at AES:
Crayola Colorcycle - Another way we reduce waste at AES is to collect used dried up markers. When we send them to Crayola, they turn them into other products.
Organizing Earth Day Week Schoolwide Activities - Green Ambassadors manned the Home Report Card drawing, as well as the drawing held for the returned leaf Green Pledges. Working out in the native garden was a plus!
