Our Place in Space - 4th Grade C.E.U.
This unit is interdisciplinary in nature and used advanced lev el reading and writing instruction to explore humanity's "place in space" over the centuries, from ancient Greece to future space exploration.
"The Beckoning" - We tested our advanced vocabulary and interpretation skills to understand the message in "The Beckoning," a poem written by a Skylab astronaut.
So Many Space Terms - While space exploration history has been going on since ancient times, we have only been around for about one decade - so we started out trying to make sense of a long list of terms that all go along with the theme of man-kind's place in space over the years. We categorized them and justified our choices.
Exploring the World of the Jetsons - After watching an episode of the Jetsons, the connection between science fiction and the real world became more apparent. Observations were submitted on a Google form while watching the episode.
A Space History Timeline of Artifacts - Each of us chose a different time in space history to research. After our research, we created artifacts from our chosen times and presented them to the class. Some of the choices were: Ancient beliefs, early astronomers, space science fiction, the Space Race, the Space Shuttle, the ISS, Mars exploration, and futuristic space travel.
