Making Waves - 5th Grade C.E.U.
What Do We Know? - To get started, we worked in groups to think about what we knew about the world's oceans prior to staring the unit.
Inspired by Experts - We learned about the different branches of Oceanography one can work in. Then we chose a specific oceanographer to read about, using the advanced informational text to engage in reading with deep thought and understanding.
The Structure of an Essay - Since we were getting ready to compose opinion essays, first we spent some time breaking an essay apart, and then putting it back together to better understand the purpose, important parts, and structure of an essay. Then it was time to write our own essays based on Arthur C. Clarke's famous quote.
Time to Debate! - Our class was split in to just about a 50/50 split. After doing the research, half of us felt the planet should be renamed as Planet Ocean, while the others felt the planet needed to remain Earth. Once we were equipped with the knowledge of our research, we were ready to DEBATE!

Virtual Ocean Ecosystem Museums - Once we learned about the major ocean ecosystems and where they are located on the Earth, it was time to choose an ecosystem to research in order to present by way of a virtual museum. We used a YouTube video, along with Powerpoint, to get our museums "constructed."
Our Museums! - After a lot of research and digital creating, here is a look at some of our museum home pages where our research was showcased.
Ocean Ecosystem Organisms - In addition to our digital virtual museums, we each created a model of our chosen organism. While we presented our digital museums in class, our audience enjoyed getting to see a creative model of each organism.
Time to share our research and techno-skills!
